An ApplicationCivilized Christians might read 2KI 18:3 & 5 and assume all should go well with Hezekiah. But don't forget JDG 2:20-22 and even JAM 1:2-3. This is an example of the timeless question "Why do bad things happen to good people?" Here, and often, the answer is to allow the world to see how God's people will handle it, and ideally, how God will be given glory in the process.

Connect the DotsWe can imagine 2KI 18:25, 30, and 33-34 got God's attention. But then when Sennacherib said 2KI 18:35, declaring not just that God wouldn't, but also that He couldn't, now we can expect he was really in trouble. Contrast the attitude God wants us to have as described in DT 8:17-18.
